The Association of Parents with Children Living with Diabetes (APNJDN) began its work in the year 1992. Since then, our association has conducted multiple efforts to achieve an increasing coverage on education, diagnosis and treatment for children and youths suffering diabetes in Nicaragua, through cultural Telethons and fundraisers, as well as through establishing coordination with the Ministry of Health, the PHO/WHO and other NGOs working in the country.

We are aware that the general public in Nicaraguan still does not recognize diabetes as a public health problem, especially relating to young children. People living with this disease still suffer discrimination, and there are still great challenges to get permanent treatment, in a way that almost all diabetes cases are diagnosed when our children get to the hospital already with complications. Nicaraguan physicians need to learn how to properly diagnose and treat child diabetes, and we need to increase the number of parents organized and involved, in order to demand greater support from the government and seek complementary help for our children, so that they can have a better quality of life and don’t die at an early age, as is currently the case.

We invite you to visit our webpage and join our efforts by contributing cash or in-kind donations, or by sponsoring a child with diabetes.
